Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of working in a Title I school in the Bronx. I have the pleasure of teaching reading this year. My students are eager to learn, in spite of not always having the materials that they need, as many of them live in the shelters. Some of my students have Individual Education Plans (IEPs), which help me to meet that child's specific needs.
I want to bring fun math and literacy into my classroom.
Children need to understand that school can be fun and educational. It's possible to giggle and learn from school or from home.
My Project
I am requesting ink for our printer so that I can print books, worksheets, and other materials for my students every month. This is one year that everyone needs their own copy. We don't want to share any materials. We are keeping our germs to ourselves. We are running out of ink. Can you imagine showing a child a Reading or Math book in black and white? The look on their faces says, "boring." They are just not engaged.
It's hard to read a book like "A Bad Case of Stripes" without seeing that in color.
Also, when I send them worksheets, it's so much easier to say, "Look at the blue math counter or look at the play money".
"Wow, it's in color!" The children are so excited to open it and begin to read or do their work. They are engaged and ready to learn. They can't wait to open up their book or worksheet and get started. It's quite difficult keeping students engaged. I'm a one-woman show. It's hard, but it's so rewarding!
