What child doesn't love hearing "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", the famous Eric Carle classic from 1969? I know our kids love it! This wonderful read aloud has been a favorite in our school for many years. Help our students continue to love all the Eric Carle books by sponsoring our project.
Our school serves students in kindergarten through then fifth grade.
We have approximately 550 students, 65% which are low income students. We also have approximately 11% of our student population who receive special education services. Located in suburban Delaware, we serve approximately 25 students who are English Language Learners.
My Project
These new Eric Carle books will be used to supplement our current collection. Our current collection has been read and loved by many children over the years. Many of our books are 10 years old! These books will also provide resources to complete our author study on Eric Carle. Approximately 100 first grade students will be participating in an author study of Eric Carle and his works. Adding additional books to our collection will ensure there are enough books for circulation among the students. These books are also used in a joint author/illustrator project between the library media specialist and the art teacher. Students can choose an author/illustrator and complete a project. Many students choose Eric Carle books for this project.
Our students need new Eric Carle books to replace the well loved books we currently have.
While many younger students read these books, they are also checked out by older students. This project will not only affect students at school, but will affect them at home as the older students love to read Eric Carle books to their younger siblings!
