Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Greetings! I am a kindergarten teacher in Northern California. My students are composed of a very diverse group of beautiful children. They speak several different languages and live in a wonderful yet high need community. Their developmental and educational needs are also high.
My students have been working in a required workbook all year with limited math manipulatives. The workbook pages are dull and tedious for all concerned. It is Kindergarten after all! My chatty students like to talk, socialize, touch, handle and learn from real objects and from each other!
I have with great humility requested write & wipe boards, magnetic numbers, graphing, sorting and addition games and manipulatives that will allow them to work with a partner. These resources and manipulatives teach the required standards in a more concrete and interesting way. The games require working with a partner. This will develop their social skills such as: taking turns, sharing, listening to each other and problem solving together. These important skills will enhance their learning and their relationships throughout their education.
Your help will make it possible for my students to learn to recognize their numbers, count accurately, add, graph, and much more. Your generosity will also enable them to make a positive difference in our world by learning to work with different partners, build friendships and yes, learn kindergarten math!
