Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students come from different backgrounds and have a variation of learning styles. Some of these students have been displaced because of Hurricane Maria in their country, and have now entered my classroom needing these resources. They attend a Title I school, where our students are receiving free breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately, this means that many of our parents do not have the finances to provide the resources that the students need.
They are hard working students, and some have been displaced from their homes because of the hurricane disaster.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to provide them with materials they will need in my classroom. All of my students want to succeed, and they are so motivated to learn in class and at home.
The students in my class are avid readers and love to create posters and visuals to go with their domain vocabulary posters. This skill helps them in finding the definition to new words that they are learning, during reading, and when practicing close reads.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my classroom, as students will be able to read and comprehend informational text. They will be able to refer to examples in a text, when explaining what the text says, and when drawing inferences from it. They will be able to practice how to make text connections and look for supporting evidence as they are reading in class.
Students will also participate in collaborative discussions in class, using their informational texts.
As a teacher, providing these materials and resources, for my students, will improve their reading skills and make them life long learners.
