I teach eighth-grade science in a small, rural Tennessee town. We are in a high-poverty area, and many of my students do not always have the same opportunities as students in urban areas.
Creating the ideal classroom environment is critical to academic success.
My students are inquisitive, eager to learn and love new challenges! Our new curriculum is project-based and enables all students to work independently through the required work. Progress is monitored through checkpoints, and students can easily see how they are progressing through their 8th-grade work.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to expand my students' horizons. Providing them with activities that stretch their brains and provide them with a challenge will motivate and engage my students.
My Project
In Science, tables work much better than desks. We need one additional blue rectangular table in our science classroom so that more students are able to work at tables while working on labs, experiments, or group assignments.
Working together at a table encourages teamwork, cooperation, and increases engagement.
All of these are essential components to a positive academic environment. In this era of teaching students critical thinking and problem-solving skills, they need more than straight content to be successful. They need to learn to work with others, brainstorm and also take responsibility for their part.
