Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a small town in southwestern Arizona. Our school is a Title One school and a high percentage of students are on free or reduced lunch program. Many children come from a low-income family where sometimes there is only one parent or the grandparents are raising them.
I want these children to be exposed to opportunities that encompass STEM.
Second grade is a crucial grade as this is one of the where students start reading fluently and exploring. Students will have the opportunities to collaborate and and build items they though they couldn't.
This coming school year (18-19) our school will become a STEM school. I am excited about all the opportunities this will bring to our students.
My Project
We will become a STEM school in the 2018-2019 school year and the items will be very beneficial for my students.
We will focus more on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
I am excited that we will become a STEM school and need these resources to make learning about STEM engaging and interactive while also making it fun. With the Simple Machine Sets, students will work collaboratively in centers to build it and in doing so will ask each other questions. With the small building plates form LEGO, students will use these to build items on different task cards.
Our school is a Title One school where many kids are not exposed to many activities. These resources are hands on and I believe they will enjoy using them but most of all finding endless ways to use these interactive and fun tools.
