We Are A Sharp Bunch

My students need an electric pencil sharpener because they spend precious class time standing in front of an old fashioned manual sharpener.

My Students

My students start they day waiting for a sharp pencil. They stand and stand wanting to use the old hand crank pencil sharpener when they could be at their seats ready to start their work. What our class needs is an electric pencil sharpener.

My students are in 1st grade which make most of them 6 or 7 years old.

They love to learn and are eager to read, write and do math. They have such a passion for learning. Our school is a Title One school, which means that 50% or more of our students are below poverty level. Some of the students in my class have very little parent support at home.

My Project

An electric pencil sharpener would help both the students and myself. It would be much quicker and quieter for students to use an electric pencil sharpener than a manual sharpener. I often spend time in the morning before school sharpening pencils instead of planning for students. With an electric sharpener I would spend less time trying to sharpen pencils and more time meeting the academic needs of my students. The students would also spend more time working and less time trying to sharpen a pencil.

An electric pencil sharpener would allow students to have the tools they need to be successful at school.

Students can't do most tasks without a sharp pencil. It would allow the students to spend more time reading, writing and doing math and less time standing waiting to sharpen a pencil. It also would allow me more planning time to insure all student needs are being met.
