This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 125 fifth and sixth grade students math. In the same week the weather can go from being humid-hot to chilly-cold. This causes many of our students to have bad colds. They are very active and eager to follow along with my goal of teaching many strategies of doing math! For example, we’re learning how to use the box method of multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting! Each time I present a new strategy I have the students come to the clear touch board and explain the problem either individually or in a small group. However, the problem comes when the students exchange the markers. Several students have started complaining about how the marker feels. To avoid this as much as possible and prevent the spreading of germs, I provide the students with Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer. The problem is after switching classes 5 times per day. The sanitizing products are quickly running out. I really believe if I had these products in abundance not only would my students feel comfortable with working the problems, but also they would feel relieved that they could feel germ free after they finish touching the board behind so other.
My Project
"Can I clean the desks?" " I want to sweep!" My students love to help keep the room clean. I have several inclusion classes that consist of general and special education students-and they all want to do their part to help keep our classroom clean. This is especially important during allergy season when students are bringing in all types of germs.
The cleaning supplies such as Lysol spray, Clorox wipes, and hand sanitizer wipes will be used on a regular basis as my students help keep the room clean.
At the end of each day and between each period student will wipe down desks and spray the room down to kill germs so that we can all stay healthy. The Kleenex will be used as needed by special and regular education students.
