My students need materials for a listening center, quick reading comprehension assessments and reading comprehension board games so we can update our Reading Centers.

We all think, love, and learn differently. In our beautiful third grade classroom, we are trying to master the major reading comprehension skills that will allow us to become independent thinkers and problem-solvers.
This third grade class is very unique and is bursting at the seams with potential.
It is up to us to create the opportunities that will allow them to explore their potential and turn it into a strong foundation so one day their successes will contribute to the progress of their communities, nation and world. The children in this third grade class face many challenges outside the classroom. Currently, 93% of the student body lives under the poverty line and about 1/10 of those students are facing homelessness. Financial turmoil, substance abuse and lack of stability are present in the majority of these students lives, yet they come to school everyday eager to grow and hungry for knowledge. We have some heavy lifting to do. As long as we acknowledge where they are now, where they need to be and the best way to get each INDIVIDUAL there, we will succeed. The materials you donate to our classroom will only make the lift a lot lighter.
There is a wide range of academic ability in our classroom. The best way to meet all the students where they are and get them to where they need to be is by breaking down the whole group and focusing on small-group instruction. Although the basic skills in these instructions may be similar, not every student is created to think and learn them the same way. During our reading block, one group works with the teacher to receive an in-depth lesson about the reading skill at hand. When the lesson is finished, the group rotates to a different reading center. There, they are asked to perform tasks that are challenging them 'just right' and reinforcing the essential reading comprehension skills.
Reading games, listening center activities and reading quickies will help the students become engaged in each skill.
Not every group of students will depend on all the materials. That is is why we need a variety of tools to help each student authentically connect with the skills being taught. The reading quickies, listening center and reading games will help us reach that goal.
