Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher of a third grade class in an underserved area. I teach reading and social studies, and the classroom has very little supplies for the children.
I am hoping to help give these children equipment and materials that will help further encourage their learning and give them a space they will enjoy!
On average, my students are well below the state average for reading. They need much more than a textbook. The skill of reading isn't attained unless practiced.
My Project
These children really struggle in regards to reading, and have little reinforcement with reading at home.
I would love to be able to provide a space for them that they can sit and practice their reading during the school day.
Being in an under-served community, the school does not have extra funds to fulfill the needs of all classrooms. In my class we barely have enough seats for the students (if I give up my desk). The addition of extra seats will help for teacher conferences.
The students need as many opportunities to read as possible. To do so, my class needs more books and a place to enjoy those books.
Hopefully with more practice it will help them continue to progress with their skills!
