My students are an eclectic group of artists, scientists, athletes, writers and just all round great kids! They come from various backgrounds in a typical suburban middle class town. I enjoy utilizing their knowledge of their own cultures in lessons and themes throughout the year.
I enjoy watching them utilize skills taught into class and incorporate them into their everyday situations.
Working with all of the students in a K-5 school allows me to watch them grow both academically and as people.
My Project
Calm Down Kits in each classroom allow for a students to self calm. If students learn to recognize when they need a break and a moment to refocus, they can do it without disrupting the entire class. Once they learn how to use the kits, I think they will be beneficial for all.
Coloring, stress balls, reading and other stress relieving tools in a centralized area can aid in students being able to gain control of strong feelings.
They can learn to manage these feelings and make better choices.
We all need a break from time to time! These Calm Down Kits are a great beginning!
