My students need STEM materials that we will use in small groups that focus on the environment that can be used to compliment our district's ecosystems curriculum.
I teach in a school that is very diverse with many different languages spoken at home. Students come to my classroom and want to learn new things every day. They want to be able to connect with each other through lessons that we are learning.
I want to build a community in the room where every voice is heard, and students can reflect and relate to what we are learning in class to their lives.
My students enjoy helping each other and being a teacher to all which not only supports their own learning but the learning of others as well.
My Project
For my project, I am requesting Global Challenges project based STEM kits that the students will use in small groups to learn more about the environment. In 5th grade, students learn about Ecosystems for 8-10 weeks and learn about all parts of the environment. Once those kits are returned, the learning stops.
By having these STEM materials that will teach students better ways to care for the environment and teach them methods to properly support all living things, I will be able to continue the learning of our Ecosystems for the remaining part of the year.
Students will be given the opportunity to learn the vocabulary of the environment, learn problem solving skills, and learn to care for all natural living things by using the STEM kit as their support. This will allow learning to be for the full year as we will have these materials to continue what the district provides us and we will compliment those lessons with more instruction and hard work!
