My students need materials to help them explore Waves. Sound and light waves can be explored and modeled using items such as prisms, laser pointers, and tuning forks.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are scientists. Each day we talk about the science practices we are using and how we are applying them to learn more about the world around us. We develop models, gather evidence, analyze data, use mathematical computations, and communicate evidence.
My students are low-income students who are fortunate to attend a STEM magnet school in a title 1 public school district.
They have an aptitude for higher level thinking coupled with a desire to learn. This combination provides a tremendous opportunity and responsibility for their educators and the community to help propel them towards a successful future.
My Project
Wave properties can be abstract and difficult to understand. With hands-on materials, students can explore different types of waves including light and sound. Students will discover how waves interact with various media differently. The prisms and lenses will support student's learning how light waves move through medium. These materials will help students to understand how waves are absorbed, reflected, and transmitted. The slinkies and ropes will help students discover the relationships between frequency, wavelength, and amplitude of waves.
My students are curious and excited about how the world works.
The more hands-on experiences they are given, the more they will remember concepts and be able to apply them in real life both now and in their future.
