Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my students have not been exposed to many art projects, painting with watercolors in particular. I hope, by the end of the year, they will be able to express their creativity through watercolor.
I teach in a very low income area.
The school's population consists of 97% English Language Learners, and 98% of our students are on Free/Reduced Lunch. We are a very needy school with lack of funding for supplies, in particular. My students are a very energetic group of kids who are very excited about learning. They have not been exposed to many art projects due to the lack of supplies.
My Project
My students will now be able to express their creativity by using watercolors. Students will be able to finish culminating projects tied in to the English Language Arts curriculum such as painting the scenery of their favorite story. Students will also learn basic art techniques such as different brush strokes and lessons on blending colors.
By having generous donations to my classroom project, my students will now be exposed to using watercolors.
Many of them have never used watercolor paints and due to lack of funding, our school has not been able to supply watercolors. Students may find an interest in watercolor painting and make a hobby out of it. Students will also be exposed to art standards and painting techniques which were never learned.
