My Students

We are an awesome group of very curious, energetic Montessori students in an urban public school system that is economically challenged. Students need that hands-on experience to better understand new ideas and concepts. Students enjoy exploring their academic world through materials that allow them to make connections and manipulate new concepts. They work hard and understand that they are responsible for their own learning. These students come from all different backgrounds and abilities which makes for a very rich learning environment.

My Project

The Water Cycle Mat is the main material that is a work of art that helps students learn in a very tactile way all of the components of the water cycle. Students lay out the large, vinyl mat and place cards that track the water cycle. File cards pose questions and the Earth Book, The Street Beneath My Feet, sand the The Skies Above Our Eyes will help find the answers. This resource also helps them do independent research with cards on weather, climate, layers of our atmosphere and cloud studies.

Imagine being able to manipulate beautifully hand-painted wooden cards that help take you through the cycle of Earth's water!

As students match the cards around the earth's surface, words on the reverse help tell the story.

In the past, resources from this company quickly draw children in and help them build a knowledge base. From there, they formulate questions for their own inquiries.
