Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth-grade students love technology. They want to use it each and every day in our classroom. Some students do not have access to technology when not in school. This is a disadvantage for them because our world is constantly growing in technology and they need to be up to par for success.
Many are from low-income families.
In addition, the majority of them are ELL learners with English being their second language. They enjoy reading many different types of materials (books, magazines, newspapers, online articles). They are also active in technology. Each student has access to Chromebooks in our 5th-grade community; however, at all times they may or may not work. Within our school, all of the students receive a free breakfast each and every day. They also have plenty of after school activities for students to join and be a part of. There is even a club for parents to help them get jobs and learn English.
My Project
Students are constantly thirsty. They especially need water throughout the day like coming in from recess, after gym class, or even just as a pick me up from daily life in the classroom. Our water fountain in our classroom does not work. We do have a water fountain located just outside of the classroom, however students seem to be redirected once out there.
These water cups will allow students to remain more on task and within the classroom.
This is because we currently have a water filtration container in the classroom, however we do not have cups for it. This project will allow the entire 5th grade team to have enough cups to last us until the end of the year with fresh, clean water with limited distractions.
