This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a classroom of 4 typically developing children and 8 children who have identified disabilities ranging in age from 3 to 5 years old. However, we have two other classrooms in our building, one that mirrors mine, and a Head-Start classroom of 17. So, in total we have 41 preschoolers moving throughout the three classrooms working on various projects and learning from all our wonderful staff. Preschool children, in general, are very hands-on and active, and the children we seem to be serving year after year is in need of sensory experiences.
Our school has a population of students that 91% live below the poverty level, and of those, 41% are homeless living in nearby shelters, so we try hard to provide wonderful experiences that will assist the children not only academically, but emotionally and socially.
My Project
We have a big need since our water table cracked and sprang a leak we have to replace it for this new school year. We found one that will not only serve as a water table, but it will expand our math and science skills with the special accessories that come with this new table.
My children love water and sensory experiences, so we have a great need to replace the water table.
For some of the children, playing in water is a soothing and stress relief experience. It is so important to have experiences that the children love, and the hidden learning occurs!
