My Students

Our students come from a seashore community where the population booms come summertime! Our backyard is rich in history, including an abundance of scenic, educational, and fun places to explore! Even though we live in a wonderful area, a lot of our students can't afford to experience the pleasures and opportunities it brings.

My hope is to be able to provide these experiences and similar ones to every student in my class.

Our school believes in connecting our community and students. We also believe in developing lifelong leaders and learners who can be productive members of our society.

I teach 75 third and fourth graders. They love to work together to do hands-on activities. During our cooperative groups, they work on being patient, kind, and contributing members of the group. They are enthusiastic and are always excited to learn!

My Project

My students attend a school that values raising environmentally conscious students. The Worm Factory will provide my students the opportunity to actively participate in composting in the classroom. My classes will be able to put food scraps and paper scraps directly into the classroom composter and watch the worms go to work.

Food Scraps + Paper Scraps + Worms = Nutrient Rich Fertilizer!

This is a great way for students to watch decomposers at work. After the worms finish their work, students will be able to take the nutrient rich compost out to our school gardens. I can't think of a better way to actively engage learners to learn how to be stewards of our Earth.
