Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a small charter school with one teacher per grade level. I currently work with 27 students. My students are primarily Spanish speaking students who have qualified for Special Education. Even though my students are at a Title I school and they come from a low socioeconomic background they enjoy being in school and want to learn.
My students need writing dictionaries and paper, so that they can learn to write independently.
It is very hard for my Special Education students to write and they need to look up a lot of words. These dictionaries allow them to quickly look up words. They also have a space where they can write their own words.
My Project
Writing is the most difficult subject for my Special Education students who are also learning English. This makes it very difficult for them to learn how to express themselves and spell correctly. When they are writing they are trying to figure out how to spell words and that takes away from their abilities to focus on the content.
Your donation will help my students to increase their ability to spell words and to correct their writing allowing them to express themselves.
The Words I Use When I Write books are important to my students. Some of my students are currently using them and they love them. The books have the common sight words and a lot of the frequently used words in them. They also have spaces for the students to have new words written in for them. My students keep the same book and add to every year of elementary school. They love to see what words were hard for them in previous years, and they can see their progress in the book.
We need the notebook paper to give us something to write on. The highlighters are used to edit papers. We also use them to highlight the parts of speech.
