My Project

I am ready to start the new school year with my pre-K students! This is such an important year of growth. For most students it is their first exposure to a school setting.

The materials I am requesting will help to give students a variety of opportunities to grow this year, and in many different ways.

We will start our year off by reading books about plants and learn how to take care of them. Throughout the year we will be taking care of our "class pet" plant. The potting soil, water trays, and plant lights will be used to help keep our plant healthy, as well as the baby plants that are currently growing from it. These plants will eventually become theirs to take home and care for at the end of the year. Not only will this activity increase their knowledge of plants, but it will increase their sense of responsibility to consistently care for their plant. The Play-Doh tools will help strengthen students' fine motor skills, while the letter cookie cutters will reinforce letter identification for those who are ready for that challenge. The sand bins and toys will encourage using their imaginations, cooperation, and sharing. These skills are so important during these early years. Finally, the "Hidden Gem" and "Our Class is a Family" books, along with the craft sticks and geodes for projects, will help to grow self-confidence, acceptance of ourselves and others, and a sense of community in our classroom.
