I work with an incredible group of diverse kindergarten students. Most of the families are low income families and educational materials are hard to come by.
Early childhood grades have always been something that is very near and dear to my heart.
There are so many different cultures and personalities, but the one thing that my students all have in common is that they all love to learn and work together as a classroom community. They each have a lot to offer and share.
My Project
I am requesting 5 larvae certificates from the Carolines Company so that my students can study about the life cycles of butterflies. Ms. C, where do butterflies come from? Does the mommy grow it in their tummies like my mommy? These are just a few sample of daily questions I get from my mini scientists in my classroom.
Watching caterpillars morph into butterflies is a wonderful way for my students to learn about life cycles.
With the butterfly larvae, my students will each have an opportunity to closely examine and learn how a caterpillar develops. They will learn about the 4 stages of metamorphosis. They will also be given daily jobs on how to clean and take care of the butterflies until they are ready to be freed.
