When I think about my kindergartners, I picture each of my sweet students and how together they make up an amazing group; one that is kind, compassionate, fun, filled with energy and has an authentic love for learning.
Although some students face various hardships such as the passing of a parent, physical and learning disabilities, and hunger, their love of school, friendship, and discovery is present every day they enter our classroom.
My goal is to foster and enrich their learning and their lives. I want to help them make new discoveries, uncover new ways of thinking, to be more confident in their skills, and guide them to a strong growth mindset and a passion for learning that will stay with them beyond our classroom.
My Project
We are requesting funding to cover the transportation cost to and from the Detroit Zoo. Our day at the zoo will provide each student with authentic learning experiences, in a hands-on environment. The relationships between animals and their environments will be brought to life by the zoo’s incredible variety of species and habitats. This learning experience will help them build connections between what they have studied in the classroom and the real world.
Our students come from lower socio-economic backgrounds and do not have the resources to travel outside of their community.
We want to provide them with an opportunity to extend what we are learning in the classroom on this field trip. Building on curriculum and standards, students will learn and see first hand the importance of wildlife conservation.
We believe providing experiences such as this can empower each and every single one of our kindergartners and special education kindergartners with the knowledge that they can make a positive impact on their world around them.
