Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Keep reading, it's one of the most marvelous adventures that anyone can have." -Lloyd Alexander. We love our adventures in learning. We know that we can bring people, exciting places and fabulous things right to our classroom through reading! Reading is something that our class loves to do.
Our classroom is made up of an amazing group of diverse students who work hard each and every day.
My students are happy to come to school and look forward to our adventures in learning. We are learning and working towards becoming better readers, critical thinkers and overall better students. We are in need of quality non-fiction texts that allows each student to practice the reading strategies we learn in class and to successfully master the Common Core Standards.
I am teaching my students how to access the information in non-fiction texts to help build their schema. I am teaching my students to become confident and successful learners.
My Project
Students having their own copy of Scholastic News Magazine will allow them to apply the reading strategies they work so hard to learn and master. Having their own copy will allow them to analyze the texts they are reading and write their thoughts, questions and new learning right on the magazine.
Students will be able to learn new vocabulary. This is a great way to integrate Science and Social Studies into our daily work. It will also integrate writing, speaking and technology. This really has many of the 21st century skills called for in the Common Core Standards!
I want my students to be inspired and exposed to great academic vocabulary and to a great variety of topics.
I want them to experience the world and all its wonders through the reading of the articles in these Scholastic magazines.
By having access to the magazines, students will be exposed to new amazing concepts and ideas. It may even be the beginning seeds of inspiration to a future scientist, doctor, engineer, zoologist, lawyer and maybe even president of the United States!
