Do you remember how excited and anxious you were at the start of every school year?
This September I will be welcoming a new group of 25 Kindergarteners into my class.
For many of them it will be the first time they are in school! They are coming from diverse backgrounds. Many of them are from non-English speaking and low-income households. Some of them live in the shelter and housing projects next to the school.
It will be my eighth year teaching kindergarten and I can't wait to meet this new bunch of incoming students!
My Project
Every year my students love reading big books. The enlarged illustrations and print makes the book come alive for them. They keep going back to read the big books over and over again. However, my current big book storage unit is a milk crate. Having the books in the crate leaves them bent and sometimes students have to go through many books before they find the book they are looking for. This big, book rack would help us keep our big books organized it will be easier for students to find the book they are looking for.
Each year I like to create literacy games for my students to help them with reading and writing. A laminating machine and laminating pouches would allow me preserve these activities throughout the year and re-use them for years to come. The laminating machine also allows me to laminate special projects that the students do so they feel their work are important.
Providing these supplies will enable my students and me to work more efficiently.
Teaching tools that I've created that are suitable for my students can be used over and over again and student work can be preserved as well. The big book rack would also help us organize our big books so students can access them easily. Please help us organize our kindergarten classroom!
