My Students

My fourth grade students are so passionate about their learning. They come to school daily, ready to learn. They absorb every bit of information and are ready for the next new thing to be presented. My students deserve every possible opportunity to learn, and in a variety of ways to meet the needs of all my learners in my classroom.

My students come from high poverty and low-income homes.

Almost 70% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and almost 30% of students are English Language Learners. Most of my students have a lack of resources or access to computers, tablets or internet at home because of the expense they bring to families. When most of my students walk through the door, they are often worried about not having enough or the right supplies they need to support their daily learning.

My Project

I want to give my students a novel study of Holes by Louis Sachar.

Novel studies are a great way for students to engage in books that they normally wouldn't choose for themselves while working on literature skills they need in fourth grade.

As a teacher, I want to instill in my students to be life long readers. When I get the opportunity to play a large roll in that for my students, I take every opportunity I can get.

For many of my students, they have not had the opportunity to have new books. It is always an exciting time when students get the opportunity to have a new book in class.
