Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Chrome Books will be used daily for remediation and enrichment in a targeted effort to close the achievement gap between majority and minority learners and to maximize the children's ability to reach their potential by matching the opportunity to use current and relevant technology.
Our school is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school however, most students come from very low income households and do not have access to these types of devices at home.
My students are very bright and eager to learn, especially when it involves technology. My school is a public, Title I school with more than 1000 students. While an effort is made to spread resources evenly among the grade levels; the upper grades (3-5) are afforded more opportunities for technology, due to state-mandated testing for which they must prepare. Sadly, the lower grades get what is left and Kindergarten is almost always left out. While we are grateful for what we have, we need more than crumbs. The youngest students deserve a great beginning in school and in the 21st Century, that must include technology.
My Project
We need six Chromebooks to further daily technology instruction to enhance remediation and enrichment of students. This project will make a tremendous difference in my classroom because students will have access to more learning through technology. Students will not have to wait all week for their 40 minutes of assigned time in the school computer lab; just to have the outdated machines take 20-30 minutes just to get logged in. There are many educational apps and educational programs my students can use to help them in literacy, math and language acquisition right in their own classroom.
While Educators who work in Title I schools are very aware of the vocabulary deficit with which most students come to school, many do not recognize that there is also technology deficit and how critical it is to address that concern if students are to be ready to face the challenges of the 21st Century.
I would like my students to experience Technology with Reading and Math every day. This will give these little ones a greater chance to be on or above grade level by the end of the school year.
