My school is in the Central Valley of California. Like many Title I schools, my students have limited resource support from their homes. Therefore, as their teacher, I want to provide universal access to resources that will bring them closer to narrowing the achievement gap.
My students faced a tremendous challenge to master the 4th grade standards within the school year despite the fact that they are 2-3 grade level below academic skills.
Most of my students lack experiences in growing plants.
My class indoor garden is Real World experience. Students will observe the growing development of seeds to plants. An amazing sight to be part of the process of understanding that a healthy habitat is essential to plant life, moreover wildlife, and ultimately human survival. My students will learn that anybody can grow their own food as long as key materials are in placed. The indoor garden will engage students while conducting scientific experiments. Also, students will acquire confidence in growing seeds and hope that one will never go hungry if you know how to grow plants. Let my class be part of the solution to end hunger.
