My students come from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic groups including low income. I teach students from different countries and nationalities, as one of three English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers on my campus. Each and everyone of the students have different learning styles (standard, special education, and AP) I strive to meet. They are smart, fun, hardworking and I want them to all be successful. By using different avenues of learning, and incorporating different strategies into learning; I can ensure the students will maximize their learning.
A document camera is a fantastic technological tool allowing students the ability to view the teacher modeling practices they need to see to fully grasp learning concepts. From ideas such as annotating texts, modeling for students to practice revising and editing strategies, and students showing their work as exemplar models to their peers, which students enjoy, the possibilities enabled through the availability of a document camera are endless. A document camera creates time for students to come up to show their understanding of the concepts. The simple live action use of a document camera allows for color coding and highlighting, whereas, before, I was required to take a picture of the text, upload the image, freeze it onto the screen, then students could interact with the text. There are great additional features, such as capturing screenshots, allowing us to revisit the work any future day.
