Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a Title 1 school district. Most of them come from low-income homes and have special needs that require adaptive equipment in order to learn. Their attention is captured when using equipment paired with lights and sounds. Their little heads turn and smiles appear on their faces as they begin to lift their hands purposefully and engage in these activities. Although they are not functioning on the same level as a typical student receiving general education services, they are intrigued with learning at their own level and pace. These manipulatives and adaptive equipment will accommodate my students and enhance their learning experiences.
My Project
We lost much of our manipulatives and equipment due to mold from Tropical Storm Harvey. My students have physical and cognitive impairments which require adaptive equipment in order to participate in certain activities. We use toggle switches for my students to read stories, so the books on CD will be used in this aspect as well as learning cause and effect. The majority of my students are functioning at an infant level so the activity gym will be used to encourage the students to reach for objects. The puzzles will help build cognitive skills/problem solving as well as fine motor skills. My students need much encouragement and with your help getting the right equipment and manipulatives to accommodate their special needs, their learning experiences will be enhanced.
