Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come from low socio-economic families and are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. After Irma, things became even more challenging. If I can in any way provide them with the opportunity of having access to technology, I would be blessed to do so.
We have limited access to computers as there are not enough for the entire school and when available, most do not function.
And those that do are very slow.
We recently were fortunate enough to acquire a few tablets through a donation. Even though they are very useful, they do not work with many programs, including the most important and used by students. Despite all the hardship that students encounter daily, they aim to succeed in school and in life.
My Project
In our neighborhood, many of the students are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Many students come to school to escape those issues and look forward to taking their minds off the stresses they see at home.
Exercising and training in the beginning of the day has helped many of my students relieve stresses due to hurricane Irma.
I see the great benefits of my student athletes working out and I would like to provide fitness watches, scales, and fitness watch chargers to them so they can step up their training. The fitness watches will help my students keep track of their heart rate calories burned, and activity levels; in-turn this will help the student athletes effectively train. The scales will help them with knowing the correct food portions needed so their bodies can benefit from their training. They also will need to keep track of their weight using the scales. Help my students gets their minds at ease after Hurricane Irma with fitness.
