My students love hands on activities and don't always have the opportunity to be hands on outside of the classroom. We try to incorporate art and all other subjects as often as possible. They love the arts (music, visual, and performance) and to learn about the city and state they live in.
We are an eclectic group of students from different cultural, socioeconomic, and family backgrounds.
We have students from all over the world that all bring different experiences and backgrounds to our learning. Our school is a small community of only 250 students with a 40% special education background, so we are a culture of love and acceptance. Our classroom and school is a close-knit family.
My Project
In 4th grade here, we learn about Washington State and everything that encompasses. Part of our Washington State learning is discovering the different regions. Our state is home to every climate imaginable and is quite exciting to learn about. In this project, we will be learning about the different regions of Washington State and representing them topographically on a map. By creating topographical maps of Washington State, it will allow the students to see and feel all of the different regions that make up our state.
Besides the social studies aspect, students will also learn how to roll, slab, and cut clay. They will learn how to be precise and use ceramics specific tools. They will learn and practice the clay firing process including choosing colors of glazes to represent the different regions of our state.
Donating to this project will improve our classroom by allowing the students to be hands-on in their learning.
Instead of just coloring in a map of the state, they will be able to visually and with dimension represent the state they live in. This project will show our students that they can incorporate art in to all facets of learning. It will teach them to be intentional in their planning and learning. Art in the classroom allows students to be creative in their learning.
