My students need access to clean laundry. We know that several barriers prevent many students from coming to school every day, including lack of clean clothes. We can use the washer and dryer to assist students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
WLHS is a Chicago Public School that serves 350 students, 90% Hispanic and 10% Black. The student body makeup is 52 percent male and 48 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 100 percent. 98% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
WLHS counselors take a holistic approach to support student success.
The goal is to promote life-long learning and to aid our students in becoming responsible and positive influences in the school and their community. Counselors help students thrive academically, personally and socially, and assist them in exploring their options after high school. Students can seek one-on-one counseling to discuss personal issues, academic support, college/career counseling, or seek crisis counseling. This project will help counselors meet homeless students’ basic needs and continue to support them in every way.
My Project
When a student is homeless in high school, it can cause high levels of stress and anxiety. While other students are able to focus on getting good grades and planning for college, students who are homeless often worry about basic necessities, such as food, clothing and shelter. The goal of this project is to give our students access to clean laundry. We would like to purchase a washer and dryer for our school. It will give struggling students the ability to have clean uniforms and this will hopefully, dramatically increase student confidence. Our goal is to minimize as many challenges for our students to ensure they stay on track, graduate and go on to college.
