My Students

My students are sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in a small, rural middle school.

Our three hundred and twenty-five students range from the mentally impaired and learning disabled to gifted, with every ability level in between.

They all are excited about learning; however, and want to be able to do everything larger schools do.

We get no money for supplies, consumables, or new equipment. Everything we get has to come from grants or fundraisers. With every department, music group, and athletic team raising funds, it becomes very difficult for the community to support all of our needs.

My Project

We would like to receive the Water Reuse Curriculum Kit so that we can practice engineering principles while learning about how to recycle water. This would be part of our STEM engineering class. Life on Earth requires access to clean water, and as populations grow, the demand for water increases. Youth participating in this unit become water resource engineers as they use the steps of the Engineering Design Process to design creative ways to reuse water. This will be the beginning unit for the class so that they can learn the steps of the design process to apply to the other project that we will complete.
