Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want my students to be excited about science and the different opportunities available to them. For this to happen, my students need materials that resemble what they might use within a certain field of science. With these materials, my students will hopefully leave with an interest in science.
My school is small, with only about 329 students, but we demonstrate a vibrant attitude.
Due to their economic status, our students don't always get to do things that might broaden their learning, allow them to engage in meaningful experiences, and show them possible career paths. We do our best to provide guest speakers, meaningful field trips, and hands-on activities that get them interested and thinking about their future. All of the teachers promote the colleges they attended and always discuss how important an education is. Each of us know our students are leaders, and we encourage them to demonstrate those abilities.
My Project
With the resources I'm requesting, my students will be able to extend their learning with opportunities to explore the life cycle and development of a chicken. We hatched eggs for the first time this last school year, and I could not have imagined how excited my students got about them. Due to their excitement, we started our very own chicken coop for the whole school to watch and learn from. Having the incubator will assist with the incubation process and allow the students a better view of the eggs on a daily basis. The additional accessories will allow my students to visually see each stage of the chicken within the egg during its incubation period. These resources will allow my students to learn more than ever before during this lesson.
Donations to this project will help provide hands-on opportunities that engage my students.
It will also provide them an opportunity to do something that they might not otherwise be able to experience. I want my students to decide at the end of this unit what came first, the egg or the chicken?
