Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from low income areas and the school district serves a 90 percent poverty student body. Many of my students have experienced many traumatic and life changing ordeals, but strive on a daily basis to push through their circumstances. These students find joy in coming to learn and participate in activities in order to get away from everyday stress. Our motto at the high school is to save lives and give hope. These students deserve the best and we will continue to strive to put smiles on their faces.

My Project

I would like for my young men to have matching shorts to practice in and shoot around in before games. It would be nice to keep these shorts at the school to wash and dry them so my student athletes don't have to worry about transporting them back and forth from home. Many of them talk about not having enough pairs of shorts or the means to wash everyday. If I can keep a set here then some of the young men won't feel left out or won't have a reason to call a parent to bring them gear from their households.
