My Students

My second grade classroom is a place where mistakes and risks are welcome as FAIL only means First Attempt In Learning. I hope to inspire them to follow their dreams and graduate from college.

Students learn to take pride in small steps and confidence grows in tackling larger problems.

I cannot control what they do outside of my classroom, but I can make it a place where they are comfortable and become lifelong learners with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

My Project

All kids love to touch, feel, and experience things during their learning at school. Having pieces to turn, twist, examine, measure, count, group and sort allow my children to have first-hand knowledge and explain processes when grappling with tough concepts. Being able to illustrate also helps me to address misconceptions.

Counting bears, coins and bills, geometric shapes, and Unifix cubes are all necessities during math instructional times.

My students can choose which manipulative they wish to work with, which makes sense for solving, and which can help explain their thinking processes. Manipulatives are vital for mathematicians at work and play.
