Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard workers at an urban, inner-city school. All of our students get free breakfast and lunch. More than half of my students come from families where English is not the first language, and in many cases school is their only exposure to English.
My students come to school each day excited to learn and to see what the day has in store for them.
The students come from varied family situations, including some who live with grandparents and some who live with other relatives. I am always looking for ways to keep my students excited about their learning and ways to give them many possibilities in their educational experiences.
My Project
Many of my students come from families with multiple children making it difficult to ensure that all of the needs are being met.
When it is cold outside, I want to be sure that each one of my students has a hat, scarf, and gloves to stay warm as they come to school, whether they are walking or riding in the bus.
Some students walk to school and the kids that are riding the bus wait outside for their bus to arrive. This can be unhealthy, dangerous, and uncomfortable, not a good way to start the day. The hats, gloves, and scarves will help to ensure that each student starts each day warm and comfortable.
