My Students
Warmth, Care, & Hunger .... Be Winter Warm!!!
My school is located in a large urban district, where 100 percent of my students receive free or reduced federal funding.
Many students overcome extreme conditions at home, but still report to school eager to perform in the classroom and participate in programs offered before and after school.
Some of my students are also considered to be homeless or live with relatives and parents often lack the resources to provide daily essentials. Almost 70 percent of my students are bus riders, and now it winter, I see a great need for coats, jackets, gloves and rain boots as they walk to and from the bus stop. On days when it is extremely cold or rainy students without these clothing essentials may not make it to school on those days. Missing school due to a lack of warm clothing only sets the students further and further behind in their academics needs. I want to help students be cold weather prepared.

On days when it is extremely cold or rainy students without these clothing essentials may not make it to school. Missing school due to a lack of warm, dry clothing only sets the student further and further behind in their academics needs. Our students need to be cold weather prepared. We can often take for granted that parents have the resources to purchase these items. Studies show that nearly one in five children live in poverty across the U.S. When a family of four makes less than $25,000 a year, deciding between housing, food, heat and healthcare takes priority, and children may have to go without a coat during the cold winter months.
Each day I see a growing need for items to keep our students warm and prepared for school.
