This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite the struggles that my students face day-to-day, they are amazing in every way! My first and second graders live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school at which 100% of the students receive free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. My students are faced with living in neighborhoods full of gun violence and gangs; yet, they are expected to sit still, be quiet, open up a book, and learn something new. They are just not focused on the task at hand. It's time to shift the traditional 20th-century learning towards the 21st century interdisciplinary learning to get them more engaged.
My Project
My students are in need of jackets, snacks, and basic hygiene kits to help them stay warm, fed, and clean during the school day.
Students perform better when they are warm, clean, and not hungry.
Jackets will help my students stay warm as we approach colder weather. Some students walk to school and need to stay warm as they are walking to school.
Snacks are needed for snack time as students eat very late in the day and often do not have snacks to bring from home to enjoy during snack time. Providing snacks will help students from becoming cranking as they become hungry during the instructional time while they are waiting to eat lunch.
Basic hygiene kits are also needed to help students with poor hygiene due to a lack of supplies at home. This will keep students from being teased by others.
