My kindergarten class consists of 25 kindergarteners who are energetic, eager to learn, and highly motivated with hands on learning. Our students live in a low-income neighborhood with some parents working multiple jobs to keep food on the table and clothes on their backs. Our school serves 100% free breakfast and lunch to all students.
My students live in a neighborhood that was named the most diverse neighborhood in the United States.
Their families come from all over the world with different learning styles, values, and languages. In my class. we have at least seven different ethnicities with 30% of our students working on improving their English language.
My Project
Hats and gloves are important pieces of clothing to keep warm during the winter months. We have recess almost everyday during our cold months here in Alaska.
Many students come to school without hats and/or gloves because they don't have it at home.
Having to borrow gear in my classroom is extremely important in order to keep my students safe and warm while they are outside. Providing gloves the kids can borrow and use everyday or as needed is very important. Our playground equipment get very cold and frosty during our cold months and the gloves we are sometimes given for the kids to borrow are not warm enough. These will be warmer and better for my students.
