My students need a carpet in their designated reading/library area to cover the uncomfortable hardwood floor and make the area comfortable and inviting.
"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." ~e.e. cummings
The students in my classroom face challenges on a daily basis.
Yet, they are the most courageous, witty, and resourceful students that I know. They embrace the opportunity for learning and becoming who they really are.
I have nine wonderful students, grades 6-8, with Autism and/or cognitive delays in my classroom. Although each student is at a different level of learning, they all wish to be academically successful. My goal as their teacher is to help them realize their full potential and to give them life long learning skills.
Our school is a public elementary school in a high poverty area in Illinois. Our school does not have the extra funds available to enhance the classroom materials. Likewise, the parents do not have the extra funds to donate materials to the classroom. I am counting on the generous support of donors like you to help me make my classroom a fantastic learning adventure for my students!
My Project
In our classroom, we have a designated spot as a reading/relaxing area. Because our school is older, we only have hardwood floors. I feel it would make the area more inviting if the students had an area rug they could also sit on while reading their books or listening to a story. An area rug would also give more color to our classroom and I think would help make the room itself more friendly and inviting.
By having an area rug for our reading area, I feel that my students would utilize this area of the classroom more.
Not only would the area be inviting and comfortable, it would encourage the students to grab a book and read!
