My students are awesome! I teach at a low-income, Title I school. My students come from very diverse backgrounds, and each brings a wide variety of life experiences to the classroom.
My number one priority is to let my students know that they will be safe, loved, and valued in my classroom, whether I have them for a year or for a day!
This year, we are meeting the challenge of reaching them from a distance with fun, engaging lessons.
My classroom can best be described as a bright, busy space where minds are always working, mistakes are often made, and students come first. For various reasons, our students are often below grade level as they enter third-grade, but my favorite part of my job is watching with excitement as these students start taking off, one lesson at a time!!
My Project
In spite of everything that has changed for my students in 2020, they have remained focused on one thing. They long for the day that we can all return to the classroom together and continue their amazing third grade journey in person. Many of our families live in poverty, and were struggling before 2020. Now their situations are even worse. Through the help of our school system, technology has been made available, making it easier for me to connect with my students daily, and continue truly TEACHING them, even from a distance.
My goal for this project is to provide students with both a warm sweatshirt and a strong connection to our classroom community, even though there are miles between us.
I want to provide my students with their own school logo sweatshirt, which is something that is simply not affordable to my students. I have worked hard with a local vendor to provide special pricing, and my goal is to wrap each gift and place it on their porch for all of us to wear together during our e-learning days.
This class has went above and beyond. Their e-learning attendance is incredible, with the majority having perfect e-learning attendance. It's time they are rewarded for that effort, and I believe this will be a boost to keep that momentum going as long as this situation lasts! Help me give my students that gift of belonging that they all desperately need!
