Ms. Harris from Chicago IL is requesting materials related to food, clothing & hygiene through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need art supplies and athletic clothing to assist them with keeping their minds and bodies active. Help them to get up and out to enjoy the weather.

My school is dedicated to and leading the charge to meet the needs of a population of adults with disabilities who are aged eighteen to twenty-one. The students who attend our school have completed a traditional high school and are seeking transition services. We provide a robust curriculum to support their vocational, academic and social-emotional needs. Students are empowered and enthusiastic about learning and that is reflected throughout the school.
Once students have completed the classes on campus, they have the ability to then enroll in the work program, which ultimately increases their chances of placement within the community to work for a partnered business.
Our goal for each student is to gain the skills necessary to become as independent as possible within their communities upon graduation.
My retail classroom is the backbone of my school's PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions of Support) program. All students earn SOA Bucks by attending school and being on time for each class, respecting themselves (maintaining personal hygiene, wearing uniform), respecting others (being helpful, kind) and respecting the environment (keeping the class and school clean). Students earn money each week and get paid out on Fridays then are able to shop in the retail store every other week.
While these are our school's expectations, they are also the world's expectations in order for them to be positive contributing members of society.
The goal of this project is to provide the students of our school with more options which they have advocated for. DonorsChoose has played an implicit role in providing all students at our school with access to items which they would not be able to have otherwise. We receive items through donations and they do not always meet the individual needs of students. They have advocated for themselves stating that they would like to have access to art supplies such as coloring pencils, coloring books, paints and easels. Many our students are very artistic and while we have an art class in school, they would like the opportunity to purchase their own supplies in the school retail store. The other items in this project are articles of men's athletic clothing for use in warmer weather. Our young men are active around the school and in their communities, these items will help them to stay cool in the heat. Please help us to reach our goal and get these items to our students who will be most appreciative.
