Help me give my students the hats, gloves, and scarves they need so that they can stay warm. These girls love coming to school. Please help them through this cold Cleveland weather.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It is an honor to educate these young girls. They strive to achieve excellence every day. For example, through no fault of their own, many of them come from homes that experience social-economic decline.
The girls' enthusiastic desire to learn and to teach the class is electrifying!
At the beginning of the school year, the girls were shy and afraid to instruct the class. Now, it’s hard to keep them seated, even the shyest student feels confident when instructing, participating, and/or working in small groups. They put forth a great effort to work as a team. It shows in their work ethics and behaviors.
The “Leader in Me-7 Habits” is the school’s model. It is so refreshing to see the girls demonstrate these habits in their daily interactions with one another. For instance, when they have disagreements, they resolve their concerns independently. This is a milestone because most girls have a hard time getting alone with their peers. These girls are developing lifetime friendships at a very young age. Priceless!
My Project
Most of the girls do not have the proper winter gear to keep them warm as the winter weather get colder and colder. Something as simple as heat and warmth are vital to their day.
Abraham Maslow stated, “Our most basic need is for physical survival, and this will be the first thing that motivates our behavior…people are motivated to achieve certain needs and that some needs take precedence over others…the first biological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sleep.”
Most people take for granted the basic needs that these children cherish, warmth and a sense of belonging. Let’s work together to give them the ability to know that they live in a community of caring people. With your help, these students can receive the hats, gloves, and scarves they need to survive the cold winter months in Cleveland, Ohio.
