Our class is a functional skills class teaching children who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, socially significant and functional daily living skills. Our class is part of a larger school that serves kids all over the valley in Utah County, Utah that are on the spectrum or have similar diagnosis'.
These students are so amazing and deserve to have the opportunities that their peers have.
At Spectrum Academy we value every student and want to give them the tools they need to succeed in order to function appropriately in our community and be able to actively participate in it when they graduate from school.
In my classroom, we won't just count the days, but make the days count!
My Project
Currently, our room has tile floors, which can feel really cold and echo sounds horribly. With the students in my room having an Autism diagnosis, this means that they are extra sensitive in processing sounds, temperatures, sights, and smells.
I'm hoping to get a classroom rug to help with these foreseeable sensory issues and a soft chair for a sensory corner for when they need to relax.
By adding these items to the room it will also be visually warmer and inviting to students to come into every day. There will also be a place for the class to gather for circle time!
