My Project

We are a 6-12 grade school in the city of Pittsburgh. We receive students from all across the city, from all neighborhoods. The students are predominantly low income students. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch due to their families' socioeconomic status.

Our school mascot is the Phoenix, which represents rebirth and a fresh start.

What makes our school special is that we build strong personal relationships and service the whole student, not just their academic needs. The heated massage seat cushions will be part of our positive behavior incentive program. The seat cushions will be used for students who are demonstrating hard work, effort, and positive attitudes. My students are always cold, even in the summer months. Honestly, the heat will be more attractive to them than the massage. Our students set behavioral and academic goals as part of our PBIS program, and routinely we try to reinforce the students who have met their goals. These seat cushions will be an affordable way to reinforce the positive behaviors we are striving for and to encourage students to achieve their goals, who have not yet done so.

The seat cushions can also be used to help deescalate students when they are trying to manage stressful situations and make positive decisions.
