This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Pre-K is their first experience in a school for all of my students, and I am their first teacher. My students work hard, and they love to explore and learn. I want my students to develop a deep love of learning. My school serves almost all low-income students, with many of my students speaking English as their second language. As a staff, we focus on equity and advocating for the children and families we serve.
I believe it is my duty as a teacher to help close the achievement gap and get children to fall in love with learning and feel safe and loved at school!
One of the ways to do that is to make school a fun and inviting place. However, this requires resources that go beyond my teacher's income. I love my scholars, and they deserve the very best.
My Project
Winter has already arrived in Minnesota and that means we are constantly losing mittens, forgetting them and often needing them desperately when it's time for recess.
Not everyone in my class owns a pair of snow-playing mittens or snow pants (waterproof) so having a selection to borrow would be fantastic.
Not to mention I included some knit ones for the days when we need our hands covered just to walk to the bus. Minnesota gets very cold and we know fresh air is very good for children, however, we want all children to be safe from the cold temperatures while we are outside.
