This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Our school is a great place. Teachers teach. Students learn. We succeed because we read. We are the home to the best kiddos in town." We live by our school motto. We recite it daily. We believe it!
Our students are the hardest workers, and they are hungry to learn.
We are focused on learning and we strive to see results. We are in the lowest socioeconomic part of our city. We aim to meet students basic needs every day before learning can take place.
My Project
My students wear hand-me-down, torn and worn uniforms that are too small. We see such a huge growth spurt after January, and our kids simply outgrow their clothes.
The exact same, worn all week long, torn, dirty, too small, too short uniform is a common sight in our room.
Our parents are simply not able to spend money on new uniforms to last throughout the year. My students need the necessities like sweatshirts and jackets. I have been begging neighbors for used coats and shopping at Goodwill every chance I get for clothes. I want my kiddos to be warm and comfortable in clothes that fit and are not worn away with holes and stains.
My students work like little professionals. I want them to feel that way, too.
