We are a substantially separate Boston Public High School for students with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Nearly all of our students have experienced some form of trauma in their lives, and come from lives of poverty, significantly limiting their experiences and exposure to the world around them.
These disabilities significantly hamper our students' abilities to make academic and social progress.
As teachers, it is our job to not only help students learn but also help them feel safe and have value. Our building has long been a haven from the streets, with support from educators and guidance counselors. We develop real relationships and allow students to have a fresh start every day. We look forward to continuing to provide them with opportunities for success, both inside and outside the classroom.
My Project
Please help me ensure each of my students has at least one clean and fresh hoodie this winter. Many of my students walk or take the T to school. They all love the warmth and comfort of a hoodie.
Students literally stood taller when they put on a new hoodie.
One student immediately started posing and modeling. Another exclaimed that she was going to be so warm and she couldn't wait to show her mother. I have many students in need. They often wear stained or torn clothes to school. They often wear the same hoodie every day.
I desperately want to give every student in this school this awesome feeling.
