Help me give my students gloves to protect their hands this winter while they work in the barn and a portable light because we have no electricity in the barn.

Our school's journey is not your average agricultural experience. Our youth come from mostly urban backgrounds in the city of Milwaukee, therefore we have the unique opportunity to teach them about agriculture and inspire them to explore its many careers. The impact of this type of hands-on learning is seen every day in my pathway, Animal Science. My students learn about all aspects of farm animal production, studying dairy cattle, beef cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep, goats, and horses. Since many of my students have never seen these animals I have succeeded in bringing in each animal for the students to have a true "hands-on" learning opportunity. In addition to the farm animals, the Animal Science classes have the unique opportunity to have small animals in our classroom. Students can engage with animals such as parakeet, hedgehogs, chinchillas, iguanas, bearded dragons, turtles, and more. Many of these pets have been donated to our school and provide my students with opportunities not available at most high schools. Even if not every graduate pursues a career in agriculture they are going to be consumers, and my fellow teachers and I hope to help make them educated consumers.
Everyday my students have the responsibility of going outside to care for the outside animals at our school in the city of Milwaukee. In our barn we have goats, cattle, chickens, and a horse. Gloves will help my students to continue doing their work.
As the weather gets colder, my students are still heading out the door to do chores and take the best possible care of our animals, but they are struggling with cold hands since many do not have gloves for themselves, let alone to wear in the barn.
It is easy to do take care of animals in warm weather, but it takes dedication to still go out in the cold and take care of our animals. It is amazing to see the students dedication grow each year and their willingness to go out without gloves even though it can be so cold. These supplies are very needed as I continue to teach the students the responsibility of animal care goes beyond warm weather and must continue no matter what.
Having a light in the barn would be an amazing gift. The barn does not have electricity and we struggle each year when we need to do animal checks after the sun goes down or even on cloudy and snowy days when there isn't much light. Using a rechargeable light source would allow us to see clearly how the animals are doing and allow us to work without carrying our cellphones in our hands or mouth.
